What is this about?

It's simple.

About two years ago, I bought a software package for 3D design and rendering. This means that I could do stuff like you see in movies such as Toy Story or A Bug's Life. Of course, their software packages are much much much more expensive and much much much more sophisitcated. But Bryce is a great great great package.

I love Bryce.

Bryce is easy to learn and easy to use. But it is extremely powerful as well. It was originally intended to make 3D pictures of landscapes - beautiful landscapes. It was also programmed to be easy to use and intuitive for the user to figure out how to do things. Most 3D software packages are very complicated to learn and require a lot of work to do some simple things. This isn't a bad thing - it just doesn't fit very well with hobbyists who don't sit at a machine producing 3D pictures all day long.

Bryce has a huge following and is made by Metacreations software. They are the same people that make the KPT filters, Poser, and many other kinds of wonderful graphical tools.

Anyway, I fell in love with it. I started playing around with it and making simple scenes with preset textures and shapes. For a while, this amused me immensely. But after a few pictures, I wanted more. So I decided to try modeling in 3D. This means that you basically start with a primitive shape, like a cube or sphere, and you stretch it and model it (much like a lump of clay) until you create a wireframe representation of a 3D object. After you do this, you can import it into Bryce, apply a texture, set the lights and the camera, and take a "picture" of the object in the scene. It all sounds very complicated if you've never done it before, but I assure you that it isn't. It is *very* easy. The true geniuses of these pictures are the coders that make this kind of software possible.

Anyway, you shouldn't be afraid to try it out if you can. :)

I know of people from 12 - 75 years old who do this as a hobby. Some of their artwork is stunning.

Some people ask me what softwares I use to create my pictures. Well, of course I use Bryce. But, to model with, I invariably use Nendo. Nendo is created by Winged Edge Technologies. It's about $100, and incredible. It is so easy to learn. You can learn everything about it in a simple 2 hour tutorial that they give you where you learn to make a penguin. At the end of the lesson, you not only know how to model very complex objects in 3D, but you have a great and cool and fun penguin model to use as well. :)

I also sometimes use Photoshop to touch up some pictures post-rendering. It depends what I want.

I hope you enjoy these galleries. :) Check out the Traveling Uncle Nat galleries as well. Those are 3D Bryce images as well, but they are part of an ongoing story and travel that I update as often as my regular Bryce images. :)

- Traveling Uncle Nat. :)

This site and it's contents are generally Copyright 1999-2050 A.D. This is also known as C.E. (for Common Era - since some people still rely on other calendars and we respect those as well but want to give them a general time frame to understand where we're coming from and make sure that there are no misunderstandings about timelines and dates involved in sticky legal issues). You are invited to touch anything you like, but please ask via email before you carry anything out of the store. I generally do not charge for any work but I do like to know where my little creations end up at. It makes me happy knowing what sort of parents are adopting them. Thank you. :)

This site is also brought to you by hotjump.com. hotjump is my creation along with my brother's and another very good friend of ours. I designed this little mascot guy as well. Everyone likes him. Some people even use the site just to see him. Check it out. hotjump.com is a portal that is for consumers of e-commerce. It's lots of fun and it's got a different design than the regular portals out there. I feel that regular portals tend to have crappy design. Don't you think they all pretty much look the same?

This site brought to you by harari.org. The above link will take you there. It is a boblet. A boblet is a nice little creature that is friendly. I designed him. Isn't he cute? I named him after my traveling uncle bob. He's cool. He works for the UN sometimes and helps out thousands of starving people in really bad places.
